"Resilience"

July 12, 2020

It’s been almost eight months since we last posted a blog and during that time the world has seen many changes and struggles. For a long time, humans have recognized various types of stress such as family and relationship problems, serious health complications, or workplace and financial concerns. Two unavoidable current issues, Covid-19 and human rights, have only compounded those stressors. Our world as we know it will never be the same, and it may take years to actually establish how it will look. In some cases, that new normal is necessary to ensure “liberty and justice for all.” How do we deal with an ever changing society complicated by all these external factors?

One trait that we value at Piece of Work is resilience, adapting well in the face of adversity or significant sources of stress. Jonathan Mills stated, “Successful people demonstrate their resilience through their dedication to making progress every day, even if that progress is marginal.” Success can be defined and/or quantified in many ways, but to us success means taking care of people and creating relationships that will last a lifetime. The obvious byproduct of those relationships is a meaningful and one-of-a-kind piece that will create generations of memories. Part of that commitment requires Piece of Work to constantly educate ourselves on the struggles of others and evaluate our own morals and beliefs. In some exaggerated symbolism, we hope we can be as resilient as the material we utilize. They have survived numerous wars, the Great Depression, countless natural disasters, neglect over the years, weather and insects, and even the pounding and prying during the salvage process.

Why did we use this picture that was taken before Piece of Work was established as a representation of this blog entry? Hopefully, we have been successful in growing day by day, especially in light of recent events. The guys you see here don’t stand a chance against our current selves! In fact we hope those of you that are taking this journey with us can see a difference from a year, a month, and even a week ago! Back to our symbolism. May we continue to grow and evolve just as that salvaged material gets transformed into an incredible Piece of Work.
